The Four Agreements
1. Be impeccable with your words.
Speak with integrity. Say only what you mean, Avoid using words to speak against yourself or to gossip about others. Use the power of your word in the direction of truth and love.
2. Don't take anything personally
Nothing others do is because of you. What others say and do is a projection of their own reality, their own dream. When you are immune to the opinions and actions of others, you won't be the victim of needless suffering.
3. Don't make assumptions.
Find the courage to ask questions and to express what you really want. Communicate with others as clearly as you can to avoid misunderstandings, sadness and drama. With just this one agreement, you can completely transform your life.
4. Always do your best
Your best is going to change from moment to moment; it will be different when you are healthy as opposed to sick. Under any circumstance simply do your best, and you will avoid self-judgement, self-abuse and regret.

Hmmm… some great food for thought.
Thanks, Gerry!
Cool.
Not taking things personally, and not making assumptions are such good practices. And pretty damn hard!
The organization where I work posted them as “suggestions” for how we might best conduct ourselves in the workplace. I've had them hung above my desk for a couple of years now and I'm still refining my practice….;-)
thanks for posting these. it's funny – the owner of the bikram yoga studio where I practice was teaching class yesterday and mentioned the four agreements in class. now I've just been referred to your blog by someone who wanted to share your post on bikram yoga and here your next post is about the four agreements.
and janet, I think I'll post these in our workplace – not a bad idea.
Ya'll beware, conventional people dont function that way….if ya master those practices, you'll be weirdos.
I'm already considered a weirdo here at my work place. It's a badge of honor. :-)
I'm a goalie! you don't get much weirder!
The Four Agreements (T4A for those intimate with the book - ha). It's held a high spot on my top 10 list for years. Changes peoples lives everyday. It's worth the trip to the library, and they usually have several on shelf.
Examing our “agreements” is always well worth the time spent.
BTW, if you add it to your fave books, then click on it as a search, it pulls up many like-minded peeps. I'm just saying…
I really enjoyed that book, too. About time for me to re-read!
