THREE
Ok..so it seems farting is pretty common. Or I am on a streak. There are times besides when I have my hockey equipment on that not having a sense of smell is a blessing. Someone near me, not the same person from yesterday, had a flatulence issue! Nearly every time she bent at the waist....
Better teacher today, very upbeat, kept the tempo going by talking throughout the poses even serenaded us at the end with a song, he has a very good voice.
One of my concerns (there are many) is the amount that I sweat, I don't think it's normal.

When I mentioned that before signing up they just laughed and said everyone sweats, don't worry about it. But I don't see anyone else with sweat running in a stream off of them, I don't see anyone else with a towel leaving a trail of water as they walk out of class. Which begs the question what is the proper procedure for exiting so as to leave as little a sweat trail as possible?

What do you do when you're in stick pose and you realize you are dripping on the water bottle of the person in front of you? Do you discretely mention it? Do you offer to buy them another? Not that either will do them any good during class, do you do as I did, hope no one else noticed and move slightly?
They don't cover any of that in the FAQ's.
Most likely class 4 tomorrow!

My comments so neither wise nor insightful. Can't see at all right now, matteroffact, laughing so hard from this 3-day romp through bikram. Tears all over my face. duuuude. Only a guy, only a guy would come up with these things!….willow walks away, shaking her head, muttering to herself, snorting. You rock.
Wonderful - don't stop sharing. Your writing is so engaging.
Now, about farts…truly, women don't bring it up so much in conversation, but our bodies do function in the same way as men's do, as evidenced by the woman near you in your class. I knew a guy who claimed the woman he'd been married to for 25 years had never farted. Never! I said to him, dude, she's got a whole other life going on when you're not around;-)
I commented about the sweating and the farting on your other too blogs, oops.
I'll go copy those comments and bring them here.
one of the students at our studio had said recently what an awful class they had had because they had to fart the whole time and spent the whole class holding it in. poor thing. at our studio, we encourage people to let it out if it needs to come out. part of being in touch with the body I’d say. :-)
sweating is GOOD for you. the more you sweat the better. your skin is an organ of elimination. i notice that my skin is much softer and healthier if I am drinking plenty of water, eating right and sweating almost every day. also– sweating is a very healthy way for your body to regulate it's temperature. it's a GOOD thing!!
I sweat BUCKETS when I'm practicing yoga in a good, hot room. I sweat so much that I feel CLEAN by the end. :-) If I'm practicing daily, eating right and drinking plenty of water, I shower before class and just air dry after class. sweat is the ultimate hair conditioner and skin moisturizing. really. :-)
oh yes - I almost forgot – sweat etiquette…….
water bottle mishaps are not uncommon in a hot yoga class. knocking over someone else's water bottle is bound to happen. I've never found my own sweat dripping on someone else's water bottle. perhaps I'm too focused on the keeping my eyes forward. so I won't fall over in balancing stick. if it was me, I'd probably just pretend I hadn't noticed – since I don't have any contagious diseases I wouldn't worry about a little of my sweat getting on their bottle. we breathe each other's air all the time.
I am a heavy sweater– rivers of sweat (and yes I am a girl) drip down my legs in class and off my nose when I'm upside down and yes I love the hottest corner of the room. I have a wonder thick mat and some wonderful, wonderful huge organic cotton/hemp towels that my husband gave me as a gift just before I went off to teacher training. you can also buy breathe mats that are specifically for hot yoga. I used to use one of those on top of my sticky mat. I always bring an extra towel to dry myself off with after class and I am usually the last one out of the room as I love my savasana and luxuriate in that quiet after class time to relax. but I just fold my towel so the wettest middle part is wrapped in the dryer edges and then roll my mat. when I get home I head straight to the laundry room and toss the towels and my dripping wet yoga clothes in the washer and hang my mat on the line to dry. I toss my mat in the washing machine too about once a week depending on how clean my sweat feels.
clean sweat???!! yes. yes. yes. truly!! when I eat right, drink plenty of water and practice 6 or 7 times a week I swear to you that my sweat feels clean. when I don't drink enough water, don't eat right or don't practice regularly I can FEEL the diffference in the way my sweat feels on my skin. and the way it smells. it's true. even my husband who does not ever practice bikram yoga (except maybe once a year on my birthday) notices a difference. and he's a true skeptic.
Dawn,
There are no dry parts to my towel.
Is that the brand name of the mat? (Breathe) Would a wonder mat be better? (is that the brand ?)
